First plot purchased!

As of early August, 2023, Planted Promise is now the proud owner of 14.88 acres of land new Mecklenburg, Virginia! We managed to secure a very favorable purchase price, and the land already has many young trees growing in place of the clear-cut— a testament to nature’s ability to heal. Our role will be in nurturing the young trees, and filling in the gaps to ensure a fully filled-out forest on the acreage.

The bulk of the replanted trees are and will be loblolly pine, with Eastern pine and a few hardwoods in the mix. After consulting with the Virginia Department of Forestry on ideal native trees to reforest the property, we learned that pine trees are ideal for their ability to grow relatively close to each other and grow quickly, sucking up more carbon dioxide in a shorter amount of time than their deciduous peers, while still remaining a wholly native forest.
